This is powerful. So many things you write resonate and reverberate for me—The idea that fear is not really of death but of the constant deaths of impermanence....Reframing community as a presence rather than an absence of pain....your words on living a life worth living as defined by you. I also appreciate your words on how community “transforms, transcends and transfers.” I see the joy and relief in that. There’s almost a kind of time travel in the way we can care for each in the past and the future in addition to the present... like you describe with Zora. I like that reminder—that even if we don’t feel cared for in the current moment or don’t feel seen as artists right now that perhaps what we do now will be cared for differently or seen differently in the future. And we can do that for people from the past too. Or perhaps in other words, it’s another reminder not to measure ourselves by how we are received but by what we choose to do.
